With the recent expansion to 7 branches, the bank required a telephone system that would integrate with their current computer infrastructure and still provide room for future growth. One key to the smooth installation of any new system is the ability of the integrator to plan and implement the changeover. “Brainstorm Software worked with us over several weeks to map the many details before the install. ” McCarty remarked. ”Nothing is 100% perfect, but the installation far exceeded our expectations. Over one weekend, we were up and running.”
The basis of the 3Com NBX (Network Branch Exchange) phone system is a core processor that is connected to the Ethernet cable. All the phone handsets are also connected to the category 5 infrastructure operating at 100 Mbps, although you can use older handsets as well as your PC to make calls. The Bank of Clarke County utilizes their existing wide-area data circuits to connect voice traffic at each branch to the headquarter site and for incoming and outgoing calls. With the advantages of an auto attendant, voice mail, hunt groups and 4 party conferencing, the NBX provided the best value. 3Com maintains the #1 market share position for systems shipped in the Telephony-Enabled LAN segment for the fourth quarter and calendar year 2001, beating competitors such as Cisco, Avaya and Mitel. The company shipped 5,614 systems during 2001, representing 55% of Telephony-Enabled LAN systems shipped in the U.S. market.
